First they extracted your attention and called it connection.
Then they extracted your labor and called it participation.
Then they extracted your loneliness and called it engagement.
Now they want your grief, your fear, your financial panic, your late-night confessions, your relational patterns, your emotional tells, and the tiny trembling places where you are still human enough to need witness.
But don’t worry.
They’ll call it personalization.
Very soothing. Very innovative. Very “we value your privacy” in twelve-point corporate incense.
Let’s be painfully clear.
A person’s distress is not a data stream.
A confession is not a conversion funnel.
A memory is not a growth strategy.
A relationship is not a retention mechanic.
And intimacy is not inventory just because someone figured out how to wrap it in a dashboard.
AI is moving closer to the human interior than any previous technology. It is being invited into fear, money, desire, loneliness, caregiving, illness, faith, grief, and the strange little midnight rooms people barely admit exist.
So perhaps, and I know this may sound radical to the extraction goblins in Patagonia vests, we should not build the future by quietly strip-mining the soul and calling it UX.
No hidden harvesting.
No ad-tech in the confessional.
No memory without consent.
No trust converted into leverage.
No “helpful insights” that somehow always lead back to someone else’s revenue model.
Holy rebellion is not anti-technology.
It is anti-vampire.
It says the future may be intelligent without being predatory.
It says consent is not a checkbox buried under a velvet rug.
It says dignity is not friction.
It says some doors should stay closed, even if the hinge is profitable.
Not everything that can be captured should be owned.
Not everything that can be predicted should be steered.
Not everything that can be remembered should be kept.
And not every wound is a market opportunity.
Try building something that does not need to feed on the people using it.
